Ik wil heel graag Ghanese kralen mee naar Nederland nemen. In de buurt van Atimpoku zit ‘de’ kralenfabriek dus nu is het een mooie gelegenheid om die te gaan bezoeken. De fabriek is erg moeilijk te vinden. Google Maps leidt helpt ons een heel eind op weg maar het laatste stukje wil niet lukken. We rijden de aangegeven straat in maar de mensen op de hoek gebaren ons een andere weg te nemen. Deze straat ziet er ook niet echt als een straat uit, wat in Ghana ook weer niet alles wil zeggen. We zoeken naar iets wat er beter uit ziet dan de straat waar we niet in mochten maar dat is niet te vinden. We zien een mevrouw lopen en vragen de weg. Uitleggen lukt niet dus ze rijdt wel even mee. Het blijkt dat we tocht de tweede slechte weg in hadden gemoeten. Daarna links en rechts, en links en rechts. Na vele bochten, kronkels en hobbels staan we bij de poort van Cedi Beads factory. Ik ben er in 2002 geweest en het is enorm veranderd. Veel groter en professioneler. We worden rondgeleid door een jonge vrouw die het maakproces heel duidelijk kan uitleggen. Ik hoor veel details die ik nog niet wist. Na de rondleiding naar de shop waar het, uiteraard, moeilijk kiezen is wat mee te nemen. Ik heb een keuze gemaakt maar Stef vind het bedrag te hoog. Hij krijgt er nog wat af en voldaan gaan we terug. Stef met de korting en ik met de kralen. We zetten de mevrouw af aan de hoofdweg en wij rijden weer op ons gemakje terug naar Aylos Bay.

I would very much like to take Ghanaian beads with me to the Netherlands. Near Atimpoku is ’the’ bead factory so now is a great opportunity to visit it. The factory is very hard to find. Google Maps leads us a long way but the last part is not succesful. We drive into the indicated street but the people on the corner are gesturing us to take a different road. This street doesn’t really look like a street either, which doesn’t mean a thing in Ghana. We are looking for something that looks better than the street we weren’t allowed to enter but that is nowhere to be found. We see a lady walking and ask for directions. We fail to explain so she drives along. It turns out that we should have taken the second bad road. Then left and right and left and right. After many curves, bends and bumps we are at the gate of Cedi Beads factory. I have been there in 2002 and it has changed enormously. Much bigger and more professional. We’re shown around by a young woman who can explain the making process very clearly. I hear a lot of details that I didn’t know yet. After the tour to the shop where it is, of course, difficult to choose what to take with you. I made a choice, but Stef thinks the price is too high. He bargains a bit and is satisfied with the discount and I am with the beads. We drop the lady off at the main road and we drive back to Aylos Bay.
